Prologue

 As the sun shines through the curtains, it illuminates and lands perfectly on Eden’s face—the breathtaking beauty lying on the bed next to me. I fear one day, she will realize who I am. I want to only be known as her beloved Onyx. She looks at me with such warmth and love. She cares for me and I’ve come to care for her greatly.

Licking my fur, patting it down, I wish I could be someone else. Why couldn’t have I fallen in love with someone else? With her I can love. Why does she have to be so damn beautiful? Why on all that is holy does she have to be the one who takes my breath away and make my dark heart beat again?

All of these thoughts make a growl erupt from my mouth, loud enough to wake the beauty next to me. I meow trying to soften the loud noise I just created. She smiles as she reaches for me and looks into my eyes, and it’s like she’s actually looking into my soul for the first time in all these years.
